Delete your Tong account
In force from the day Tong launches publicly · For Tong – টং, the friendship app published by Wevention Pty Ltd on Google Play, the App Store and the web
In short
This page explains how to delete your Tong account, with or without the app, what we delete, what we keep, and for how long.
Deleting your account can't be undone. If you want a copy of your data, download it first: Settings → Privacy → Download my data.
Delete in the app
- Open Tong and go to Settings → Delete account. If you haven't finished signing up, use the menu on the sign-up screen.
- Read what will be deleted, then press and hold Hold to delete until the glass is empty. With a screen reader, a keyboard or on the web, tap Delete, then Yes, delete for good.
- If you finished signing up and last signed in more than 5 minutes ago, sign in again to confirm it's you. You can use any sign-in method on your account.
- You are signed out, and your account is deleted.
You can delete your account at any time, including while it is suspended.
Delete without the app
- In any browser, open app.tong.party/settings/delete (available when Tong launches).
- Sign in with your mobile number (we send a code by SMS), or with email, Google or Apple if your account has it.
- If you don't see the delete page after signing in, go to Settings → Delete account (or, if you haven't finished signing up, the menu on the sign-up screen).
- Tap Delete, then Yes, delete for good.
If you can't sign in (for example you lost your SIM and linked no other sign-in method), first ask your mobile operator for a replacement SIM with the same number: then you can delete the account yourself. If that isn't possible, email privacy@tong.party and tell us the mobile number on your account. Before we delete it, we check that the account is yours: we may ask you to write from an email linked to the account, or to tell us details only the owner would know, such as the full name and date of birth on the account and roughly when you joined. We never ask for your sign-in code. We reply within 7 days, and once we have confirmed it's you, deletion starts at once and is completed within 30 days.
If your account was banned, you can't sign in. We start deleting it 40 days after the ban (after the appeal window) and finish within a further 30 days. To have it deleted sooner, email privacy@tong.party.
What happens at once
- You can't sign in any more, and you are signed out everywhere.
- Your profile disappears for everyone.
- Your friendships and friend requests end.
- Your chats disappear for the people you chatted with too, straight away: they are deleted for both people, with all their messages and media, within minutes, unless a court, the police or another authority has lawfully told us to preserve them; then they are kept, hidden, only until that order ends.
- If you signed in with Apple, we ask Apple to end Tong's access to your Apple ID where Apple lets us; you can always do it yourself in your Apple ID settings (Sign in with Apple).
What we delete within 30 days
- Your account, phone number link, email and sign-in details
- Your profile, including your full name, date of birth, gender and profile text
- Your photos
- Your face data: your face reference image, check images, check results and age and gender estimates
- Your location
- Your friendships, friend requests and blocks
- Your messages and chat media
- Your settings, device records and notification tokens
- Your consent records (a summary of which notice versions you agreed to stays with the proof of deletion)
- Staff notes about your account
- Your data downloads
We keep a record that the deletion was completed, with the consent notice versions you had agreed to, without your name.
What we keep, and why
| What we keep | How long | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Reports you made, and reports about you, with their review records, without your name | 1 year after each report is resolved | To keep Tong safe: reports can show a pattern, and decisions can be checked or appealed |
| Evidence copied into a report about you, if the report led to a ban | 1 year after the report is resolved | The same safety reasons. Otherwise, evidence about you is deleted with your account |
| Records of moderation actions and staff actions, without your name | 5 years | Bangladesh's Personal Data Protection Act 2026 requires records of processing to be kept for at least 5 years (section 19) |
| Proof that your account was deleted, and which consent notice versions it had agreed to, without your name | 5 years | To prove the deletion was done, and the consents we relied on |
| Anything under a legal hold or a preservation order (for example evidence in a child-safety case) | Until the police, the court or the authority no longer needs it, then deleted | Legal obligations |
| If your account was banned: your mobile number, in scrambled form | 2 years | To keep banned people from joining again |
| If you used Tong in Australia: the mobile number you joined with, in scrambled form | 2 years | Australia's online safety rules require it; used only to keep banned people out and to answer the police |
| Service logs (IDs, codes and counts; never message text, your number or your location) | 30 days | To keep Tong running and secure |
| Backups | Up to 14 days | Deleted data can remain in backups for up to 14 days, then it is gone |
If a report about you is still open when you delete your account, our team may look at it for up to 72 hours before your name is removed from it.
Things we can't delete: copies of your photos, voice messages or videos that a friend saved on their phone, and messages a friend forwarded to other chats (they don't show your name as the author).
Can I come back?
Yes. You can sign up again later as a new person, with a new live camera check. Nothing from your old account comes back. If your account was banned, you may not join Tong again (Terms, section 2); we keep your number in scrambled form for 2 years to stop it being used.
